Reflections on Noor

If the Divine is light, then is God the sun? the stars? could she be a rainbow?

Nur (light in Arabic) is seen by Muslims as one of the 99 mystic attributes of God, a manifestation of divine light. These paintings are based on reflections on Ayat an-Nur, one of the most mystical passages of the Quran:

Allah is the Light of the heavens and the earth.
The example of their light is like a niche within which is a lamp,
The lamp is within glass, the glass as if it were a star,
Lit from a blessed olive tree,
Neither of the east nor of the west,
Whose oil would almost glow even if untouched by fire.
Light upon light.
